YACHT TEST- OCEANIS 48 FROM SPLIT, CROATIA
Tested Yacht: Oceanis 48, production year 2015
Location of the boat: Marina Kaštela, Split area, Croatia
Well, it is not easy to write how we tested Oceanis 48 since it is one of my favourite boats, and I
am afraid that I will use too many superlatives :)
Oceanis 48 has right size for comfortable cruising and sailing the Adriatic sea.
We have been sailing with Oceanis 48 more than 4 weeks, in 3 separate sailing weeks and few shorter sailing trips over the weekend, so we are aware about all of the great details that this yacht has compering to the other sailing yachts similar size and category, and also some details which can be improved.
Our test model Oceanis 48 has 5 cabin layout and 3 toilets. We had been sailing on Oceanis 48 as crew of 4 adults and 4 kids and as crew of 6 adults, and also as crew of 2 and 3 adults with 2 kidsso we tested most of the options.
When we were crew of 4 kids and 4 adults it was really great experience. Two stern cabins (bigger then bow cabins) were quite large, so adults can sleep comfortable - even during the hot summer nights. Kids were sleeping in the bow cabins, and bunk -bed side cabin was used as a storage.
Bow cabins are having own toilets, but beds are not wide as in stern cabins.
Saloon in Oceanis 48 is very lovely with great and airy kitchen- and I had enough space to store groceries for one week- although space in boat lockers looks bit limited. I like the two refrigerator option- if offers enough space to store all of this veggies and fruits, also the cold drinks for 2-3 days (or more).
Kids were enjoying large swimming platform where they can sit and lounge or keep their feet soaked in to the sea while motoring. Swimming platform is operated by remote control unit- and it is very easy and great feature.
It can be completely closed while sailing/ and then you can use upper part as a bench- or can be fully opened when motoring to give additional space in the cockpit.
Apart of the great swimming platform, best from this sailing boat is XXXL wide cockpit, offering great space even for 10 adults. Of course, comfort is really great when capacity is not fully occupied, but even when used in full capacity- cockpit offers great space.
Oceanis 48 sails very nice and with roll main sail it is very easy to handle- we have been sailing also as crew of 2 and it was not a big stress for us. Next time we should try Oceanis 48 with full batten main sail / to compare the difference.
Both bimmini and sprayhood on Oceanis 48 are large enough- so almost whole cockpit is protected. There is enough space on the deck for sun- lounging or reading books bit away from the rest of the crew.
Toilets are not the biggest ones, but still they are solid, and with some storing options.
Oceanis 48 is really comfortable comparing similar models and size, and cabin layout. Only what I would like to add is some Air conditioner or at least fans to make warm summer nights easier.
Boat that we tested had standard charter equipment- bow thruster, heating, bimmini, sprayhood. It also had B&G plotters that you can connect via the wi-fi and get all routes for sharing with your friends.
I can definitely recommend Oceanis 48 for sailing holiday with family and friends.
